Kenmore 25372055200 5,600 BTU Air Conditioner | Initial Checkout

Описание: The initial checkout of a Sears Kenmore 5,600 BTU window air conditioner from 2002, model 25372055200. This was purchased by my grandfather in April of 2002. I believe it was originally used in my grandmother’s room for the first few years, then she got a newer one and this was moved to my grandfather’s room.

This is a rather high efficiency unit, rivaling that of the machines made today. It has a claimed EER of 11. It utilizes an LG rotary compressor with 13 ounces of R-22 refrigerant. The machine was made by Electrolux, and while the design offers good performance, efficiency, and is quiet, I abhor the design in regards to cleaning and servicing. It is extremely difficult to take apart.

The room it’s been used in is too small for the machine’s capacity, especially when not used at lower temperatures, therefore it results in a damp cool. The last few summers have been extremely humid, and my grandfather has told me it doesn’t seem to remove the humidity from the air. It blows cold and drips condensation if you set the temperature low enough for it to run for several hours and keep the bedroom door open, but he prefers to keep the door closed and set the temperature very high. Under these conditions, this unit, and pretty much any other unit of this style, will not yield the desired results.

I gave him a smaller capacity 5,000 BTU Westpointe branded air conditioner, which is smaller and lighter, which he will use in his room this year, and I took this one back in its place.

Upon testing the machine on the bench, it started up for the first time since last year rather gracefully and sounded quit healthy. It got up to pressure much quicker than I was expecting. It provided more than a 20 degree delta. The amp draw was around what is reasonable, and plenty of hot air was coming out the condenser.

A few rows of the evaporator did get some ice, and the last rung or two wasn't as cold as I think it should be. There was a clear line of rust on the side of the evaporator, and it was where the ice stopped. It seems as though it's been behaving this way for quite a few years. One may think it's low on gas, but I'm thinking this is just the way it operates. Perhaps anyone else who has one of these can weigh in. It only calls for 11 ounces of gas, which is not very much at all for a double layer coil. It also made a good amount of refrigerant sound for quite some time after shutting it off, which I would not expect if it were low.
