Are sunsets redder than sunrises? Physics and perception.

The prototypical sunset is red and fuzzy, while sunrises are often depicted as cooler in color temperature and tidier. There are various hypotheses concerning Rayleigh and Mie scatter and the Doppler effect, but these cannot explain a systematic difference. Nevertheless, sunsets are still redder in our perception.
