Sometimes we start small and go big. However when we go big we have to fix small things we overlooked in the beginning. Same happened to me that I took foundation of #cabin for granted and thought by placing couple of blocks I can build a Cabin with a loft. Well loft was not the plan. However, as I made the room, I thought to myself it would be just a weekend room. Inorder for a week stay I need storage of stuff and food.
So ended up building a loft with 3 ft high walls and head room under ridge beam of 6 feet for a person to stand. This loft addition added loading. Six years ago I did not realize the settling of foundation concrete blocks ( empty). The concrete blocks are still okay however the slabs they are sitting on are changing their flatness.
So now I want to jack up the whole structure and place temporary (strong) and redundant supports to replace the concrete blocks with the posts reinforced with 10 mm rebars going all the way to 2 feet deep where the bed rock is.
This video is in preparation for actually replacing the blocks and testing the jacking up mechanisms (with two 12 tonne bottle jacks) while loading an already built reinforced concrete post from bed rock in the middle of two existing concrete block posts. In the video I further place I beam near the concrete block post which I intend to replace in order for the bending moment on the beam minimized when I hang the beam without support under it with blocks removed and dig and place a column from bed rock under it. It has to stand for seven days before I load the new reinforced concrete post coming from bed rock since concrete (per note from civil engineer) gains its strength about 90% in 7 days and full strength in 28 days. The 24 hr window on the bag of #concrete is not to load it, its only that one person can walk on it.
There is another video coming in which I actually dig the whole after taking out concrete blocks, place a 12 inch sauna (hollow cardboard tube for concrete pouring) place rebars tied in triangle ( 3 of them) and pour concrete.
Thank you for watching, Safety First!
