High Sierra Trail Solo August 17-22 2022

Описание: I was driven to Lodgepole to camp on Aug 16. It rained that evening it rained a bit and into the next day which kept it cool in the low elevation on day one. I was dropped off at the Ranger Station in light rain and I waited to pick up my wilderness permit. The bus took me into Crescent Meadow where a couple bears witnessed the beginning of my trip on this historic trail.

I hiked alone the whole time on this hike. Every step. It was beautiful and wild. Being that this trail crosses the Sierra I felt like I was very deep in the wilderness especially the remoteness in the Big Arroyo and Chagoopa Plateau.

I encountered many bears, a couple snakes and not many people on this trip. I chose to stay solo even when I got to Guitar where there were lots of people. I had kind of a disassociated and independent vibe and really wanted to stay solo which was easy enough to do on this trail.

The highlight of this hike for me was Precipice lake which I had been looking forward to seeing for many years. It was really interesting to see all of the relics of days gone by and the trail being built. Especially the abandoned cables near the tunnel. Those were too heavy for horses to carry so those long lengths were literally walked-in by chains of trail builders. Litter, but litter with a story.

Also if you happen to know about the partial cabin just off the main trail on the plateau please let me know. I imagine it was an old ranger cabin since most homestead and private residences are dismantled and erased.

It was a beautiful well made trail.
Not my favorite hike but I’m glad I did it.

2. Hamilton Lake
3. Moraine lake
4. Junction meadow
5. Guitar lake

Special thanks to my family who drove me to the trailhead on the west side of the Sierra and then drove to the east side and picked me up at the end.
