How to sew a French Dart

If not, here’s a quick tutorial!

1. Fold the dart right sides together with raw edges aligned. Pin in place.
2. Starting from the raw edge of the side seam, stitch at 5/8”, tapering to zero at the dart tip.
3. Leave long thread tails and do not backstitch. Instead, tie the thread tails together to secure your dart
4. Finish the seam allowances of the dart however you’d like. You can serge them together, use a zigzag stitch, or use pinking shears. Since it’s cut on the bias, it won’t fray much.
5. Press the dart downwards. A tailor’s ham helps with this. And you’re done! You have a beautiful French dart
