Asian talent makes up about half of the workforce at leading Silicon Valley tech companies - yet Asian professionals remain dramatically underrepresented in executive roles. That gap doesn’t start in boardrooms; it starts in how we’re taught to learn. Not just reading and repeating, but building, questioning, collaborating, and leading.
For 150+ years, Cameron House in San Francisco’s Chinatown has stood in that gap - evolving from a mission home that protected Chinese girls and women from trafficking into a community anchor for youth, families, and seniors. Today, they’re doubling down on hands-on, project-based education that grows critical thinking and confidence - skills that power STEM and leadership alike.
This video is the capstone of our Kimono-Woven project: a celebration of organizations working at the intersections of cultures - preserving heritage, empowering people, and shaping new identities. In a neighborhood where resources are scarce, Cameron House meets kids and families where they are, helps them navigate a new culture, and equips them to thrive in the one they’re building.
This is our call to action; culture doesn’t define itself – we do. It takes many voices and a lot of small actions. Show up and contribute – you’ll learn so much about who you are, and why it matters. After all, our cultural identity was shaped by everyone who came before us, and it is our duty to pay that forward.
