The Hobbit Trail on the Oregon coast is a magical half-mile long hike from the parking lot to the beach. It begins in a lush forest full of rhododendrons, ferns and moss. It leads to a hidden beach at the foot of a coastal cliff.
Near the beach, the trail passes through a tunnel of bushy foliage lined with seashells and dead crabs found on the beach.
It is this leafy tunnel and the experience of emerging from the mossy woods to the wide open beach that has captured the imagination and inspired the trail name. This natural arch gives this place a unique charm, almost as if it came out of the pages written by J. R. R. Tolkien.
