This is a World War II Italian helmet. Though much less famous than its German, British or American counterparts, it is a very well made high quality helmet. The front bears the badge of the 91st Infantry Regiment, a unit that fought in Tunisia in 1943 as part of the Superga division. The liner and chinstrap are made of thick, quality leather. A large space is left between the liner and the shell, in order to leave room for deformation in case the helmet was hit. The location where the helmet was originally found, Sbeitla, near Kasserine pass, in Tunisia, is painted inside the visor, and demonstrates that this helmet is a true relic of the North Africa campaign.
