Learn the Ropes. Know the ropes. Show you the ropes.
What are the ropes? What does "the ropes" mean?
Learn the ropes is an idiom meaning "to learn what you need to do a job well." Know the ropes means "To know what you need to do a job well." Show you the ropes means "Teach you how to do a job well."
Originally used by sailors who had to use ropes all the time. From anchors to lifeboats to sails and masts and fishing... ropes were an essential part of sailing life. Someone who 'knew the ropes' had a good chance of surviving and doing well on sailing ships. On the other hand, someone who didn't know the ropes, was going to be useless, and would have trouble staying alive.
You can use 'The ropes" to talk about any set of skills needed to do any job. From call center to programmer to trash collecter... if you know how to do the job, you know the ropes.
