🕊️ Teachings of Jesus About Money | Biblical Wisdom for Today 💰
1. Money as a test of loyalty and priority
"No one can serve two masters (...). You cannot serve both God and Money."
— Matthew 6:24
Jesus teaches that money can become an idol, competing with God for our hearts. The choice between serving God or money reveals our spiritual priorities.
2. Store treasures in heaven, not on earth
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth (...). But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven (...)."
— Matthew 6:19-21
Jesus warns against clinging to material possessions, reminding us that earthly wealth is temporary. True value lies in eternal deeds and attitudes.
3. Generosity as a virtue
"Give, and it will be given to you (...); for with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
— Luke 6:38
Generosity is encouraged, not as an obligation but as a reflection of a transformed heart. Jesus promises that those who give will receive — not necessarily material wealth, but spiritual blessings.
4. The parable of the rich fool
"You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?"
— Luke 12:13-21
In this parable, a man accumulates wealth for his own comfort but dies before enjoying it. Jesus teaches that wealth without a relationship with God is meaningless.
5. The rich young man
"Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor (...). Then come, follow me."
— Mark 10:17-27
Jesus challenges a rich young man to give up his possessions to follow Him. The man leaves sad, revealing his attachment to wealth. Jesus comments on how hard it is for the rich to enter the Kingdom of God because of their trust in riches.
6. Tithing and justice
"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—but you have neglected the more important matters of the law: justice, mercy and faithfulness."
— Matthew 23:23
Jesus criticizes those who give tithes meticulously but ignore deeper principles. The focus is not just on giving, but on the heart behind it.
7. The poor widow
"Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others."
— Mark 12:41-44
Jesus observes a widow who gives two small coins and praises her generosity, as she gave all she had — unlike the rich, who gave out of their surplus.
8. The parable of the talents
"For whoever has will be given more (...); whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them."
— Matthew 25:14-30
Jesus teaches the importance of wisely managing the resources and gifts we receive. God expects us to be faithful stewards of what He entrusts to us.
