The British Army was called in to assist the Isle of Wight’s authorities in preventing further flooding and damage to the Island following torrential rain and landslides.
Soldiers landed at Seaclose Park in Newport by Chinook helicopter, in what is understood to be one of the biggest operations the Island has seen.
The video here shows the troops leaving the island, heading back to base after a couple of days here on the Isle of Wight.
Initially, several Land Rovers were flown across the Solent suspended underneath a Chinook helicopter before being dropped at Seaclose Park, much to the amazement of residents in the towns of East Cowes and Newport, who witnessed the unusual helicopter and cargo flying low.
The Army was used to help evacuate part of the Undercliff, near the southern point of the Island following a large landslide resulting in half a dozen homes being cut off from the outside world.
Troops worked with emergency services including HM Coastguard, Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, Hampshire Constabulary, Isle of Wight Council, Island Roads and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
