The life of a salesman is a busy one, and such jobs always involve one very specific task: speaking with people. All you do in sales is talk. For that reason, it’s understandable that someone like 29 year old Val, who worked as a sales executive in the software industry, sometimes preferred to spend his vacation time in places where he could get away from other people. One such place was the backcountry of Mt. Rainier National Park, where miles upon miles of unmarked, pristine wilderness await anyone brave - or foolish - enough to step off trail. Seeing an opportunity to get some true alone time, Val packed up his car with all the supplies and gear he’d need for a multi-day backpacking trip, and made his way into the park. Leaving his car a short distance due east of a large stream, Val began making his way deep into the forests beneath the tallest peak in the lower 48. For the first two or three nights spent in the woods, everything was as he’d hoped. Peaceful, tranquil wilderness surrounded him on all sides, without so much as a single human soul to be seen for miles in any direction.
