A man of sincere religious faith, he helped the 1906 Pure Food and Drug Act become law and treated his employees with remarkable kindness. He left behind a legacy of notable descendants dedicated to public service, and a sizable family fortune, which as of 2020 via the Heinz Foundations, is still known for its philanthropy.
