In this tutorial, we explain how to start with FPGA programming. We explain how to write a basic FPGA program that implements AND and OR gates. To successfully implement this FPGA program, you will learn how to
1. Create a new project in Vivado. Vivado is a software development environment for programming AMD/Xilinx FPGAs.
2. Define a Verilog module in Vivado. Verilog is one of the programming languages for FPGAs.
3. Connect program variables with physical switches and LEDs on the FPGA.
4. Compile and upload the FPGA program.

In this tutorial, we are using Nexys A7, ARTIX-7 100T FPGA. This is one of the most popular FPGAs for learning programming and is widely used in electrical and computer engineering programs in the US.
With minor modifications, everything explained in this tutorial can be used in the case of other FPGA. The only modification is how physical switches and LEDs are connected to the variables defined in the program. We will explain later on how to modify the code such that it works in the case of other FPGAs.
We are using Vivado 2024.1. You can also use any other older or a newer version of Vivado.
