Located just west of Katoomba, Pulpit Hill holds some of the Blue Mountains’ overlooked colonial relics. In this video we explore the history of the site — from the route taken by Blaxland, Wentworth and Lawson in 1813, to the early tourist track created on Cox’s Road, one of the mysterious convict pits scattered through the bush, the vanished police lock-up, and the possible oldest European grave in the Blue Mountains — that of convict Edgar Church, buried here in 1822. Join me as we uncover the quiet layers of history hidden on this unassuming hill.
