In this video, I show how I'm adding an autumn olive shrub to the Bantam Run. I grew the shrub at home for many years, but finally moved it to the farm today. It's a named cultivar I got from Burpee probably 8 years ago or more, either Garnet or Amber. I'll know for sure next time it fruits.
I also show the size of cuttings I work with to root them.
Autumn olive is a controversial plant to some and I'm not going to get into the arguments about whether or not to propagate it. I have two HUGE wild shrubs on the farm that were there when I started working in the orchard. The berries are delicious and numerous. The chickens love them, and the nutrition profile of the fruits is impressive, especially the amounts of cancer-fighting lycopene.
