James Harrison, known as the "Man with the Golden Arm" began donating blood after surviving major chest surgery at 14 where he redeived 13 liters of blood. Grateful for the strangers whoyed helped him, he started donating regularly at 18.
Over 60 years, Harrison made 1,173 donations, saving more than 2 million babies. Upon retiring in 2018, he expressed hope that someone would eventually break his record, saying, "I hope it's a record that somebody breaks, because it will mean they are dedicated to the cause"
