Hello everyone, I'm Lyra. In our previous video, we explored how to select machining processes for precision requirements. Today, we'll continue by examining how to evaluate whether CNC machined part quality meets standards.
Quality assessment for CNC special-shaped parts should focus on four key dimensions: dimensional accuracy, surface quality, assembly fit, and functional performance. Given the challenges of irregular shapes, undefined benchmarks, and complex measurements, evaluation requires multi-tool verification and scenario-based testing.
Precision Detection
Precision inspection forms the foundation of part quality. Both dimensional and geometric tolerances directly impact part functionality.
Tool selection depends on accuracy requirements:
±0.01 range: digital calipers, micrometers, depth gauges
±0.001 range: height gauges, lever dial indicators, digital micrometers
Complex multi-dimensional parts: CMM for automated data collection and drawing comparison

Surface Quality
Surface quality affects sealing performance, wear resistance, and appearance. Key indicators include surface roughness, defects, and integrity.
Surface roughness (Ra) guidelines:
Ra 3.2-6.3: visibly rough with clear tool marks
Ra 0.8-1.6: smooth texture with minimal visible marks
Ra 0.2-0.4: very smooth with semi-mirror finish
While visual inspection provides quick quality assessment, measuring instruments remain essential for detecting minor defects. Additionally, CNC machining can cause work hardening and microcracks, requiring microhardness testing to verify surface hardness hasn't been excessively compromised.
Assembly Adaptation
Since most CNC parts are customized components, individual inspection approval doesn't guarantee proper assembly function. Physical assembly testing remains crucial for validation.
Assembly verification methods include:
Using CMM to measure positional deviations of key features
Applying feeler gauges to check critical clearances
Consulting assembly tolerance tables to ensure proper fit

Functional Performance
Custom CNC parts require functional testing simulating actual usage scenarios to verify they meet end-use requirements:
Load-bearing components and brackets: pressure testing for deformation/cracking

Beyond these four core areas, additional testing may include:
Physical properties: wear, corrosion, and temperature resistance
Material composition verification
