Learn how to sew down a knitted edge by hand using a tapestry needle for a professional finish. Align the edge stitch-by-stitch on the inside and secure it neatly. Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail at least twice the width of the edge, and thread it into your tapestry needle. Hold the right side of your work facing you, keep the knitting needle with stitches in your left hand, and the tapestry needle in your right.

We start from the back were the edge is based on wrap cast on stitches. Ensure that you are sewing down stitch-by-stich and row-by-row. A knit stitch on the right side will pair with a purl stitch in the wrong side for example.

First, insert the tapestry needle from the right through the loop of the first stitch, remove it from the knitting needle, and insert into the corresponding stitch in the row below or along the edge. Pull the yarn gently.

Next, insert the tapestry needle back through the first stitch from the previous step and repeat. Continue until all stitches are bound off and secure the yarn tail on the inside. This technique is perfect for finishing knit hems, necklines, and other edges for a clean, seamless look.
