‘Telehealth increases safety and efficiency’ during GP consultations

Royal Australian College of General Practitioners President Dr Harry Nespolon says “telehealth telephone consultations” are being “welcomed” by Australian Doctors across the country.
As the number of coronavirus patients in Australia increases, Doctors are set to experience increasing pressure to cater to both patients with common health complaints and the victims of the virus.
Mr Nespolon said this new telehealth system promotes “efficient dealings with patients” and allows both the patient and doctor to remain “safe” from potential coronavirus infection.
“Not all consultations require you to have a patient sitting in front of you," he said.
Telehealth consultations will “really help GPs both with capacity and their anxiety in dealing with patients,” Mr Nespolon told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
He added that “the Health Minister is going to be working towards" ensuring that telehealth technology is "available for all medical problems and not just coronavirus problems”.
