The U.S. carried out airstrikes last night against Iran-backed Shia militias, targeting three sites along the Iraq-Syria border for destruction in retaliation for drone attacks against U.S. forces in Iraq. The targets apparently were linked to the drone program: “operational and weapons storage facilities,” according to the Pentagon. These strikes are better than nothing but are ultimately not enough to deter Iran and its militias from continuing attacks against U.S. forces.
