While a celebration of George Washington's birthday might seem incongruous with the border at first, Laredo has honored the occasion with an annual festival since 1898. Adapting the iconography surrounding the United States' first president, the month-long festival commemorates Laredo's multicultural heritage through parades, pageants, concerts, and other special events. This silent home movie captures the 1963 celebration, including the young ladies of the Society of Martha Washington.
