Having been painted hundreds of times, the surface of the cyc at Mount Pleasant Studio (http://www.mountpleasantstudio.com) had become uneven, so we decided it had to be replaced. Rather than rebuilding it as it was, we went for a bigger and better option. It's now deeper and U-shaped.
The work took place across the first weekend of January 2013 and took five days, plus a day to reinstall the spacelights and cyclights. Ray Moody was in charge of shooting and editing the film. I shot timelapse for the last two days only.
The cyc was designed and built by Alan King, who has worked for many years in film and commercials set construction and has become something of an expert in putting together cycs. As you can see there more to it that you might expect, and removing an inch and a half of paint was a mission in itself. I hope you enjoy the film.
