Where to from here? The journey of health reform in Australia continues – Prof Christine Bennett AO

In this keynote session, Prof Christine Bennett, Dean, School of Medicine, Sydney, the University of Notre Dame Australia presents 'Where to from here? The journey of health reform in Australia continues'.

Faced with the systematic changes across the health system the reforms agenda looks at redesigning the Australian public hospital funding system so that it is better positioned to respond to emerging challenges and improve long-term sustainability in public health care.

Prof Bennett was appointed to the role of Professor and Dean, School of Medicine, Sydney, The University of Notre Dame Australia in May 2011. Prof Bennett is a specialist paediatrician and has over 30 years of health industry experience in clinical care, strategic planning, business operations and senior management in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.

Prof Bennett is currently the Chair of Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network and HETI Academic Board. She sits on the boards of Regis Healthcare Limited; Capital Markets CRC, Digital Health CRC and Lorica Health.

In February 2008, Prof Bennett was appointed as Chair of the National Health and Hospitals Reform Commission providing advice on a long term blueprint for the future of the Australian health system and aged care. The Commission’s final report was presented to the Government in June 2009.

Prof Christine Bennett was awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the Australia Day 2014 Honours List.
