In the 1950s, Kenyans organized a freedom movement led by a force called the Kenya Land and Freedom Army. Their mission: fight British colonial rule and restore indigenous land and practices to the people! “Save the land” became the rallying cry of one of the Black world’s most renowned land-back struggles.
On Tuesday, Feb 3, we’re grounding with scholar JovVanta Mason to take his reading of the Mau Mau Rebellion “off the page.” Join us as we trace how place, belief, and community shaped their liberation strategy, and how it might inform our own.
PRE-READING: Attendees are encouraged to read JovVanta Mason's "Reading the Mau Mau Rebellion Through Kenyan Spiritual Relations to Place" in the latest issue of The Land, Food, and Freedom Journal at www.landfoodfreedom.com.
Stewarded by the National Black Food and Justice Alliance, please respect this space as a Black-centered container for learning, remembering, and imagining toward liberation.
