It was difficult to sight next May's Kentucky Derby yesterday through the rain and mud and fog at Aqueduct, but the 2-year-old colt named The Silver Move got the clearest look when he outran Jules to win the Remsen Stakes by 4 1/2 lengths.
The Silver Move, owned by Earl Silver and trained by Linda Rice, handled the two turns of the mile-and-an-eighth race, which has launched the Triple Crown careers of Pine Bluff, Go for Gin and Thunder Gulch. He stalked the pace until the homestretch and then closed fast to overtake Jules and Accelerator, the two favorites, and won for the third time in five starts. The winner ran the mile and an eighth in 1:532/5 and paid $9.60. The early favorite, George Steinbrenner's Acceptable, was scratched several hours before the race.
