🏰 History vs. Legend: The Ravana Connection

Historically, Sigiriya is known as the spectacular capital built by King Kashyapa in the 5th Century AD, a palace in the sky designed to be impregnable.

But whispers of a much older legend surround this monolith. 🤫

Before Kashyapa, many believed this rock was the majestic Alakamandawa—the glittering palace of the mighty King Ravana from the ancient epic, the Ramayana. According to legend, Ravana, the ten-headed king and master of advanced technology (like the Dandu Monara flying machine), used this rock as his strategic fortress thousands of years ago.

As you gaze at this incredible aerial view, you have to wonder: Was this the stronghold of Kashyapa, or the ancient seat of Ravana’s empire?

Whatever you believe, Sigiriya remains an undeniable wonder of the ancient world.
