I've done some research since this, and reached out to Gene about these whistles. He says the numbers date them back to 2015, which isn't nearly as old as I was expecting, and he said the standard heads should be quite representative of his work.
Also, I looked at the design of the quiet head shown on his website, and it doesn't look like mine (mind still has that flattened portion below the blade), so I believe that I have something of an experimental head, which is like the standard head but with a taller windway, so it takes more air, has a bit less backpressure, but delivers that softer, fuller sound.
