I've got some lessons for everyone using action cameras while fishing.
1. Clean the surface of all salt if you plan on using a suction mount
2. Make sure you buy the float accessory for your camera
3. If you don't do 1 & 2, make sure that you don't mount it on the side of the boat
Luckily for me the Garmin VIRB XE is waterproof 50m and we were only fishing in 6m. It spent about 2.5 hours on the bottom before we dove down to grab it. The battery had gone flat, so we put in a spare and it fired right up ready to keep on going!
