The Upper Hill Viaduct is an elevated road project in Nairobi aimed at easing traffic congestion between the CBD and Upper Hill, particularly along Valley Road, Kenyatta Avenue, Ngong Road, and Haile Selassie Avenue. Launched on 17 September 2020, the project stalled for several years due to funding challenges and unpaid contractor bills. Construction resumed in mid-2025 after the government implemented a securitisation funding mechanism to clear pending payments. Once completed by the revised target of December 2026, the viaduct will allow through-traffic to bypass congested intersections, reducing travel times and improving connectivity in one of Nairobi’s busiest commercial corridors. The project highlights Nairobi’s shift toward modern, grade-separated urban infrastructure, enhancing mobility and supporting economic activity.
