Maragusan is a first class municipality in the province of Compostela Valley (now Davao de Oro) that settles in a midst of a valley surrounded by lofty mountains. Dubbed as the summer capital of Davao Region, Maragusan is home to beautiful hills and mountains, stunning landscapes, breath-taking multi-tier waterfalls, hot and cold springs, and various awe-inspiring sights. The place is a preferred purlieu of adventure buffs, nature-lovers, or someone who wants to escape the hell-ish atmosphere of the city (or where you are right now). After all, what better way to seek reprieve from the punishing heat than to be around nature?

Getting here is done through local bus lines and vans, or in our case, a private vehicle, that ply the Tagum to Maragusan route via Nabunturan. One can also access the place through Mati to Maragusan road. Either way, worry not of the road because it is already paved and well-established unlike before.

We traveled for more or less 4 hours from Davao City (traffic is included in the travel time) and greeted by the place’s simplicity and calmness. One of the distinct features that will make you fall in love with the place right away is its cold temperature abounding in drafts of air, comfortably low for humans. The temperature is somehow comparable to that of Baguio, the country’s summer capital, hence, the reason why Maragusan is tagged as the region’s summer capital.

Upon arrival (we got there at around 7PM), we proceeded to Haven’s Peak, a known highland resort in Maragusan for our first night’s stay. The place welcomed us with the literally breath-taking 208-step stairway from the parking area to the resort’s lobby. But for those who have altitude sickness (char), cable cars are available to bring you up there.

At Haven’s Peak, the night was long and full of beauty (not terror lol). The beauty of the municipality at night can be seen from there and it spiced up the fun chitchats with friends while filling our lungs with fresh oxygen. The silence and serenity of the place plus the bed weather lulled us to dreamland afterwards. The next day, we’re still entertained by the overlooking view of the municipality while having our breakfast. After then, we packed our things up and proceeded to our next itineraries for the day.
