Pontius Pilate came out to the courtyard gate,
“Why do you bring this Man back to me?”
They answered him with burning hate,
“He’s guilty—just wait and see!”
But Pilate told them, “I find no crime at all,
Nor did King Herod, when he heard your envious cries.”
But envy stirred that priestly throng;
And they insisted on Jesus’ demise.

*Verse 2*
It was a custom at the feast each year,
To free one chosen man;
And a famous rebel, Barabbas, lay
Condemned for his murdering hand.
“Whom shall I give you?” Pilate asked,
“Barabbas—or this Christ, your King?”
The chief priests moved the crowds to shout,
Dark deception spread its wings.

*Chorus*
*“Crucify Him! Crucify Him!”*
Roared the voices in the square;
“What has He done? What is His crime?”
But no one wanted justice there.
“Crucify Him! Crucify Him!”
Pilate’s pleas were drowned in hate;
When he washed his hands in water,
He sealed the Savior’s fate.

*Verse 3*
While Pilate sat upon his throne,
A message came from his wife:
"Do nothing against this Righteous Man
He lives a holy life!
I have suffered greatly in a dream about Him—
Protect His righteous blood!”
But the priests inflamed the mob once more,
Like a rising, raging flood.

*Verse 4*
“Which one shall go free?” the governor asked,
And the multitudes replied,
“Release Barabbas! Free the man
Who murdered, rebelled and lied!”
“What then with Jesus, called the Christ?”
They answered with a roar,
“Let Him be crucified!” they cried,
More furious than before.

*Chorus*
*“Crucify Him! Crucify Him!”*
The wicked chant would not relent;
“What evil has He done?” Pilate asked,
But the mob for blood was bent.
“Crucify Him! Crucify Him!”
Their fury filled the sky;
And Pilate, wishing peace to keep,
Condemned the Lord to die.

*Bridge*
“All right—see to it!” Pilate cried,
“I am innocent this day!”
“His blood be on us and our sons,”
The maddened people say.
The murderer walked into the light,
The Innocent stood bound;
The guilty gained their freedom’s breath,
The Spotless with thorns was crowned.

*Verse 5*
So Pilate scourged the Holy One
And signed the fearful writ;
He handed Him over to the soldiers,
Judgment’s seal was set.
Pilate sent the Lord to crucifixion,
At hatred’s cruel demand;
While Barabbas walked free, yet unforgiven—
Grace must die for every sinful man.

*Final Chorus*
*“Crucify Him! Crucify Him!”*
Echoed through Jerusalem;
Yet Heaven used the apostate rulers—
Salvation would come through them.
“Crucify Him! Crucify Him!”
Innocence was unjustly tried;
Jesus bore our shame and took our blame,
For those deserving death - He died.
