Last Thursday, briefs were filed by the plaintiffs and defendants in a lawsuit about whether or not Governor Mike DeWine and the State of Ohio can move forward with a restructuring of K-12 education.
Under DeWine’s budget, the Ohio Department of Education would become the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce — which reports directly to him — and the state board of education would be gutted. However, state school board members and Toledo Public Schools sued to block the changes.
Currently, we await a decision from Franklin County Judge Karen Held Phipps, as to whether or not major changes could be coming with regard to public K-12 education in the state.
