MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE "FIRES OF RAVEN" ENDING.
Let me just say for the record that I love Ayre. Which is the exact reason why when I first played the game fully, I went for the "Liberator of Rubicon" ending. In fact, I went for the ending twice after I saw NG+ had more missions from the Rubicon Liberation Front (like "Prevent Corporate Salvage of New Tech" and "Defend the Dam Complex").
My third playthrough was where I intentionally leaned more into being a corporate hound, rejected the RLF at Gallia to kill Index Dunham, spared V.VII Swinburne so I could kill Rokumonsen, murdered G1 Michigan rather than team up with Middle Flatwell to kill V.V Hawkins and V.VIII Pater... and then did this after murdering my buddy, Rusty.
Also, I don't even get to kill V.II Snail in this path! Truly the worst ending! (Though you can also believe that the Coral is too dangerous to co-exist with humanity, so whatever you decide, really.)
The final boss of this route is the Ibis-series C-Weapon known as the IB-07: SOL 644... and it's being commandeered by your brain waifu as she's realized you're going to destroy Rubicon and cull her entire race. As you buy time for a mortally wounded "Cinder" Carla to ram the Xylem into the Vascular Plant and ignite the Coral, Ayre makes her final stand on behalf of her entire race, "carrying her people's resolve on the wings of this machine".
Everything about the SOL 644 is incredibly powerful... it truly deserves the final boss title of the first ending. As nimble as an AC and as tanky as a SEA SPIDER, this machine makes Ayre a nigh-unstoppable force... one you must overcome to burn the Coral and fulfill Walter's final wish.
Defeating this boss without getting micro-staggered took me about 3 days to do, but I did it. There have actually been a couple of occasions where I beat the first phase with no damage, then IMMEDIATELY got smacked by Ayre's Coral clones. The trick is to ascend backwards, but if you're not fast enough you'll get tagged. A lot of Ayre's attacks require pre-emptive dodging to avoid reliably, and that is NOT easy when she can switch between simple Coral blade slashes, pulling out a massive Coral "Laevatienn" a la Flandre Scarlet, or as I mentioned... those DAMN Coral clones.
Nevertheless, I overcame this hurdle... and somehow lost less than 1,000 AP by the end of it. Not a No-Hit, I know, but I'm very proud of this. Bless the Lord.
Next week, I beat the piss out of V.II Snail in the ending where you, Ayre, Rusty, and the RLF get to SAVE Rubicon from Overseer AND Arquebus.
Not looking forward to ALLMIND, when I get to her...
