Rhea Chakraborty was born into a Bengali family in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. Rhea's father (Indrajith chakraborty)was an indian army officer and her mother is sandhiya chakraborty. Her younger brother is showik chakraborty. She studied at the Army Public School in Ambala Cantt.
Rhea began her television career in 2009 with TVS Scooty Teen Diva, of MTV India, where she was the first runner-up. Later, she auditioned for being a VJ at MTV Delhi and was selected. She has hosted several MTV shows including Pepsi MTV Wassup, TicTac College Beat and MTV Gone in 60 Seconds.
she made her film debut with the Telugu film Tuneega Tuneega In 2012. In 2013 she debuted in Bollywood with Mere Dad Ki Maruti as Jasleen. In 2014 she played the character of Sonali in Sonali Cable. In 2017 she appeared Bank Chor opposite to Ritesh Deshmukh. She also did cameo appearances in Half Girlfriend and Dobaara: See Your Evil. She appeared in Jalebi (2018) opposite debutante Varun Mitra.
She is currently unmarried. There were some rumors that she was in a relationship with actor Aditya Roy Kapoor for sometime.
Recently,  Rhea has been hitting headlines of late for her personal life while she is believed to be dating Sushant Singh Rajput.
She has done Ramp walks for various fashion events like Lakme fashion week, India Beach fashion week, etc.

Recent contraversy
After Sushant’s demise, in her social media posts, she confirmed that she was Sushant’s girlfriend.Reportedly, she was the last person whom Sushant had called before he committed suicide on 14 June 2020.
On 28 July 2020, after more than a month of Sushant Singh Rajput‘s death, an F.I.R. was lodged against Rhea by Rajput’s father K. K. Singh at the Rajiv Nagar police station in Patna, and a four-member team of Patna Police left for Mumbai to question Rhea Chakraborty and her family. In the FIR, Sushant’s father made serious allegations against Rhea. According to K. K. Singh, Rhea had kept Sushant away from his family, and she had kept Sushant completely in her possession. Sushant’s father also alleged that Rhea also controlled Sushnat’s bank accounts, and she had access to his credit cards.
Earlier, Rhea had requested the home minister Amit Shah to initiate a CBI investigation in the alleged suicide case of Sushant.
