1. Deer Park in Sarnath, where the Buddha delivered his first ever
sermon (to five Bhikkhus, his first disciples)
2. Bodhgaya: The place of Buddhas Awakening
3. Rājagaha/Rajgir: One of Buddha´s favourite places. Bamboo
Grove (Venuvan) was a donation of King Bimbisara (friend and promoter of
the Buddha, King of the Magadha empire)
4. Hill of the Vultures near Rajgir: Important place for Mahayana
Buddhism (in respect of the Heart Sutra/ Buddha Avalokiteshvara).
Vulture Peak was a favourite meditation place of the Buddha
and his disciples.
5. Vesali: Mango Grove was a donation to the Buddha by the royal
courtesan Ambapali. Place of the Second Buddhist council
6. Kesariya, where the Buddha spoke to the Kalama: "Come,
Kalamas. Do not go upon what has been acquired by repeated
hearing; nor upon tradition; nor upon rumor; nor upon what is in a
scripture; nor upon surmise; nor upon an axiom; nor upon
specious reasoning; nor upon a bias towards a notion that has
been pondered over; nor upon another's seeming ability; nor
upon the consideration, 'The monk is our teacher.' Kalamas,
when you yourselves know: 'These things are bad; these
things are blamable; these things are censured by the wise;
undertaken and observed, these things lead to harm and ill,'
abandon them..."
7. Savatthi: Jetavana - Where the Buddha spent 19 Vassas (Rains
Retreats) - It was a donation of Anathapindika. 871 suttas are
said to be given in Savatthi (most of them in Jeta Grove)
PS:Angulimala, a mass murderer, became a famous discilple
of the Buddha.... Andanda, a relative of Siddhattha Gotama,
was one of Buddha´s principal disciples and his devout
attendant.
