On February 3, 2026, Iran launched a reconnaissance drone toward a U.S. Navy carrier strike group operating around the USS Abraham Lincoln.
The Shahed-129 drone flew over the carrier group, collecting data on position, speed, and movement—critical intelligence for potential future targeting.
U.S. commanders classified the flight as an intelligence threat and decided to shut it down.
The response came from an F-35 fighter already on aerial patrol.
The fighter intercepted and shot down the drone.
