"Letting Go" My First Short Film on an APS-C camera (Nikon D7500)

The purpose was to see if I could create cinematic-looking content with a non-cinema camera (Nikon D7500 with a 35mm lens F1.8). Let me know if I achieved it or not. The story and acting was secondary. I wasn't able to do tracking shots because I was in front of and behind the camera. And yes, there's much to be desired and learned. I wasn't mindful of the light when I moved my hands or body, and probably a bit too much light hitting my face in the garage.

An external monitor would have helped greatly (which I intend to buy) as opposed to the video screen on the back of the camera. But this was a bare-bones experiment with an APS-C camera. I can only use what I have, as opposed to a full frame Nikon Z6III or Sony FX3 which are very pricey.

With a 24mm 2.8 lens, I could shoot 4K on the D7500 and it would more or less look like a 35mm shot in 1080p. I shot everything in 1080p instead of 4K since this is only being shown on YouTube as opposed to a film festival. But the D7500 can only do 4:2:0 8 bit resolution as opposed to the standard 4:2:2 10 bit (never mind compression versus a raw file). I could get a Blackmagic Video Assist or Ninja V external recorder in the future, or I could just buy the Canon R8 full frame camera since it's moderately priced.

I hope to shoot with more people in the future, some silent, some with dialogue (that will be a fun learning curve). In a professional setting everyone has an assigned role (lighting, sound, cinematography, art, directing). But for indie filmmakers, it's fun to dip your hands into everything and learn about the process.
