At 9 a.m. on election day, the line outside the polling station at Myles Standish Hall on Bay State Road was out the door and around the corner. Voters passed the time by chatting on their cell phones or catching up on class reading. For most BU students, it was the first time they were able to vote in a presidential election. For all of us, November 4 marked the end of a very long campaign.
The number of registered voters in the state went from 4,098,634 in 2004 to 4,220,488 for yesterday's election, an increase of 3 percent. Massachusetts secretary of state William Galvin predicted that more than three million people would turn out to vote.
In the video above, BU Today spoke with the students and area residents voting at Myles Standish Hall about why they thought it was important to vote in this election.
