If you have a PC, oiling it is simpler because you can disassemble the fan. But for laptops, you may need to carve a hole at the back of the fan. Of course, your laptop's fan might be different from mine, but you should try it before taking it to a repairman.

I wish I knew this before getting my fan replaced because it was a waste of money since it started to make noise again in six months. The first time I tried this, I wasn't sure what I was doing and used cooking oil :) However, even that worked for 4-5 months, so I assume that with mechanical oil, the fan will last for at least a year without any noise. Then, you may need to oil it again.
