Unboxing Brick House Cigar by J.C. Newman

Hi this is Kelly with CheapHumidors.com and this is my unboxing of the Brick House Cigar by J.C. Newman.

This one is rated a 92 from Cigar Aficionado. It’s a good one and it’s a standard one, the one we are going to open today, so let’s go through it.

J.C. Newman is right around the corner from us. We are lucky to be in Tampa with all of the other cool cigar industry people.

This is a Nicaraguan stick and what is interesting about this box is that it has the red varnish going on around here and then it has the dye cut and embossed label that says Brick House here.

This is the interesting part though; I haven’t seen one of these before. Instead of finishing the edges, they actually took an embossed and gold foiled tape that says Brick House, which wraps around all the corners. This is definitely a different finishing technique that I’m not used to seeing.

This is a Corona, 46 ring gage. On the bottom there is a gold stamping that reads: Brick House, 25 cigars, handmade in Nicaragua.
This box does have one clasp on the front and on the back it has two hinges. Let’s open it up and check it out.

This is a pretty classic cigar style artwork going on here.

It has inside these two velum sheets with a sticker on them that says Brick House. There is also a note inside that says Brick House and it explains the whole story about Brick House which is J.C. Newman’s first house he could remember. The artwork done on the inside of the box reflects that.

The first level used to have a tavern in there and all of the local people would hang out in his house that he grew up in and smoked cigars, hang around and drink. Doesn’t sound like a bad house to me.

A beautiful moss colored satin ribbon goes all the way around the cigars. There are also two cedar spacers, made of real cedar; smells nice.
Let’s open one of these up and check out the actual stick because that’s what it’s all about right?

If you look closely, it has Brick House here and it’s got the standard black and gold, yellow crème colored and red colors. It has beautiful designs, it’s dye cut, embossed, foiled, the whole nine yards here.

For people who are not aware, the biggest cigar label manufacturer is going to be probably the one in Orlando, I’m not going to say the name, and they make almost all of these.

They have all the equipment to make these, I would say they have probably 80% of the market share and this one will run you about a quarter for ten thousand pieces, that’s how expensive these cigar bands are. That’s why people are into packaging and they will pay it.

So let’s just go over this.

They say it has an oily outer wrapper, but I will disagree. It does not look that oily to me. It is really smooth compared to other veiny sticks that I have seen. It is well constructed. A little bit spongy but it does look pretty nice.

This is a medium to full body, a Nicaraguan Havana Subido wrapper. That is their own happy word that they made up, it has been trademarked, it means whatever they want it to mean.
