Описание: Raghurajpur is a quaint village located near Puri, Odisha, renowned as a haven for traditional arts and crafts. This village is most famous for being the birthplace of the centuries-old art of Pattachitra, a form of cloth-based scroll painting that depicts mythological themes, intricate motifs, and vibrant colors. All colours that are used are made from natural sources. We went to Raghurajpur from Puri by auto rickshaw and it took us roughly half an hour.
Raghurajpur is home to skilled artisans who have preserved and passed down a variety of traditional crafts through generations. There are over 150 houses in Raghurajpur and every single home is involved in traditional arts & crafts. In addition to Pattachitra, the artisans create works of art like Tassar paintings, palm leaf engravings, stone and wood carvings, and Gotipua dance masks. The village is also significant as the birthplace of the classical Odissi dancer, Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra.
The entire village itself is like an open-air gallery, with beautifully painted houses showcasing murals and designs inspired by their artistic heritage. Recognized as a heritage crafts village by UNESCO, Raghurajpur offers visitors a unique opportunity to witness the artists at work, creating intricate masterpieces using ancient techniques.
Raghurajpur is a vibrant cultural destination, where art and tradition are not only preserved but also actively celebrated. Raghurajpur, the artisans' village in Odisha, plays a significant role in promoting the state's tourism industry through its unique cultural and artistic heritage.
It is a pity many tourists are not aware of Raghurajpur, for that matter even many people in Odisha are not aware.
