Whenever I talk about food-safe 3D printing, people assume I mean printing food itself. Well, this time, I actually did! My colleagues in the Food Engineering department wanted to experiment with chocolate 3D printing, testing ingredient modifications and infill effects. The challenge? No budget for a dedicated chocolate printer. So, I repurposed an old Ender-3 V2 and paired it with a CakeWalk3D extruder to see if I could make it work.
This turned into quite the DIY challenge—modifying the extruder mount, tackling temperature issues, and dealing with the unique viscosity requirements of chocolate. The results? Well, let's just say there are some serious limitations. But was it a complete failure? Check out the video to see the process, the unexpected hurdles, and whether this budget solution can actually work! And if you have recommendations for an affordable chocolate 3D printer, let me know in the comments!
