Traditional thinking when it comes to making a mechanical whirligig that changes the up and down motion of a crank into spinning motion is that you need to make or purchase some type of gears. You don't ! Creating a mechanical spinning Whirligig without gears is possible by using two discs of different sizes connected to a propeller and a shaft. You can cut the discs, thread the shaft, and attach the propeller and the discs together. Designs for the spinning discs can vary, such as a ballerina, a barber pole, or a train.
