BMW X5 also have Typ 188k differentials. They are available with quicker ratios. In this case I found a junk yard diff with 4.10 ratio. In this video we are trying to fit that in e46 housing. There are couple of diy hints included.
Disclaimer: I recommend taking your diff to specialists.. or at least purchase better tools than I had. This is only a video about how I did it and it may not work at all in long term.
