Hi, this is Scott with etrailer. Today, we're taking a look at and installing our EcoHitch on our 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE. The EcoHitch on our Mercedes-Benz is gonna be a good option for people that are looking for either hauling a bike rack or a cargo carrier, even pulling a small trailer. This hitch is gonna be a two inch by two inch, so it's gonna accommodate most of your common accessories that are on the market today. This is gonna be a removable hitch, so this one, you're gonna have the ability to take a bolt out and actually remove this whole receiver section. And then it actually turns it into a hidden hitch so you won't even see it hanging down underneath of your vehicle.
So that's a nice option. If you've done towing for the season or you're done with your bike racks and it's winter time, it's nice that you'd be able to take that bolt out and remove this and put it away. And that's gonna keep it from getting corrosion on it or getting scratched up and salt damage from the wintertime. This hitch is gonna have a five inch pin pole opening, so that's gonna hold in your accessories. This hitch won't come with the pin and clip, so you may want to pick one up here at etrailer.
We're also think about taking a look at a locking pin. Those are really nice. So if you go out to the bike trail and you have your nice bike rack on the back, you'll be able to lock that in place so no one can take that off while you're down the trail. This is gonna have your safety chain loops and they are gonna be way up in there. It's gonna be a little tricky to access, but you can do it, but it will accommodate your S-style hooks.
With your clevis style, you may have a little bit of trouble trying to get it up in there. But definitely go with your S-style and you shouldn't have any problems. As far as measurements go, from the center of the pin hole out to the edge of our bumper, we're looking at right at about four and a half inches. And with that measurement, you'll be able to figure out if you can fold up any of your accessories that stow away without making any contact with the back of your vehicle. From the top of our receiver tube to the ground, we're looking at 13 inches.
And with that, you'll be able to decide if you need any rise of the shank of say like your accessories, like your bike rack or your cargo carriers, for clearance in the back of your vehicle. As far as weight ratings go for this hitch, we're looking at a tongue weight rating of 800 pounds and that's gonna be the weight of say your bike racks loaded down with your bikes or your cargo carrier loaded down, pushing down on the lower portion of your hitch. Now as far as a tow rating, we're looking at 8,000 pounds for a gross trailer weight rating, and that's gonna be your trailer loaded down with all of your stuff. Now keep in mind it's always a good idea to take a look in your owner's manual and make sure you don't exceed your maximum total capacity's in there. So it's usually best to go with the lowest number between your hitch and your owner's manual. Now if you're looking at this hitch for your Mercedes, feel free to leave us any questions or comments down in the comment section below, or you can get a hold of one of our experts here at etrailer. As far as installation goes, this one is pretty detailed. You're gonna have to remove the rear fascia, so it is a little bit tricky to do. If it's something you don't have time to do yourself, take a look at our dealer locator and we can get you something done locally. If it's something you feel like doing yourself, stick around, watch our video, and we'll help you get it installed. To start our installation, we're gonna want to get our rear fascia off. So what we're gonna have is we're gonna have three little plastic push pin, rivet pins here in the back of our fender well. They can be a little hard to see, so we're gonna do our best to get in here so where you guys can see these. The best way to do these will be to, you can see where the little rivet pin is, you want to get behind that with a flathead screwdriver. Just kind of start to work that out a little bit, as much as you can. They're in there pretty tight, so just work at 'em. Get that to nudge out a little bit. I'll take my trim tool. And to try and get behind that little button, you may need to use different tools
