On October 11, 2019, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Chennai in an 'informal summit'. After the tour of three iconic monuments - Arjuna's Penance, Panch Rathas and the Shore temple, the two leaders sat down to enjoy a cultural performance known as 'Bharatnatyam' at the temple.

The excellent interpreter Priyanka Sohoni who spoke perfect Chinese at the Shore Temple banquet dance is an officer of the Indian Foreign Service. She works in the Indian Embassy in Beijing and has won the external affairs minister’s gold medal for best officer trainee in her batch.

On the stage, you can also see Nilakshi Saha Sinha, one of Modi's preferred interpreters. In the second row, right after the two leaders are two other interpreters who conducted whispering interpretation between Hindi and Mandarin Chinese.
