since sep 11, 2024, i've walked 2,549,639 blocks (14.36%) towards the corner farlands. i began just two weeks after completing my previous journey to the edge farlands, out of a desire to fill my 'idle' time with something. it never ended up serving that purpose, but i made ~700,000 blocks of progress naturally over the course of the first year. on feb 9, 2026, i tried once again to make it a challenge of consistency. out of the 13 days between then and now, i've walked on 13 of them (including today).
overall, this is a ~17,749,357 block journey which, at the journey's average pace of 4.49 m/s, will likely take 939 more hours to complete (157 hours spent so far). i'm streaming it all in order to fully document and have proof of my journey! you can see the full playlist of every stream up to this point: • Corner Farlands Journey

my dream to reach the farlands was born in august 2017 which is when i came across kurtjmac's far lands or bust series! after failing many different attempts, i created the world on the side of fate in february 2021. i began streaming in april 2023. finally, 7 years later in august 2024, i achieved the dream that my younger self couldn't see themself achieving.
i'm making the journey again because the farlands still has a place in my life. my first farlands journey served as proof to myself that i could achieve anything, that i could realize my dreams through sheer will. the farlands has always served as a monument of becoming more than i am. what i need now is different from then. more than simple will applied over any period, i need both consistency and will. consistency despite anything and everything. that's the purpose of this journey. i want it to be an everyday thing, beginning to end. but the journey has only just begun.
i am using minecraft beta 1.7.3 as it is the last version that has the farlands still in it. essentially, terrain in minecraft is created with a noise generator, and in this version, a value in the noise generator increases by 171.103 each block away from the origin. once you get far enough out in the world, this number will reach the integer limit (2,147,483,647), creating interesting results. (2,147,483,647 / 171.103 = 12,550,824, right about where the farlands starts!)
the jitter of the world you see is caused by a floating point number precision error that is present in this version of the game. coordinates surpassing a power of two (2, 4, 8, 16 ... 1,048,576, 2,097,152, 4,194,304, 8,388,608) will double the imprecision of the world's rendering on that axis (X axis for me) and it'll look twice as laggy.
the number 'nametags' on the mobs are part of the debug (F3) menu in versions before beta 1.8, showing the mob's ID within the game.
i go in and out of the boats repeatedly because the old boat physics is pretty scuffed. in certain cases when exiting the boat, the player will push it and accelerate it. usually this is just called boat boosting
i place my bed on small platforms, because in this version of the game, a mob will spawn on you when you try to sleep. the rules for whether or not this happens are weird, but i think it has to do with whether or not a forcefully spawned mob could pathfind to you. so if i make the bed on a platform with no adjacent blocks, there should be no path to it. i'll also leave the bed behind so that i respawn there in case i die.
