Cloud-native technology plays a crucial role in unlocking the full potential of Telco 5G networks and is essential for the development of 6G and beyond. Telecommunications networks, which are fundamental to our safety, social stability, and economic well-being, have been designed and maintained with a focus on minimizing risks and ensuring maximum reliability and uptime. The Telecom industry is working to match the pace of the enterprise sector, and cloud-native practices have become an integral part of ongoing standardization efforts, including within 3GPP and other forums. Significant progress has been made in the technological domain over recent years for the cloud-native transformation. While this transformation promises many advantages, it also brings challenges that extend beyond the technology itself, impacting organizational culture, operational processes, and skill development. In this talk, Faseela will reflect on the evolution of Cloud-native in Telecom with an expert panel of Telco end users and CNCF community members, raising the critical question: are we there yet, what lies ahead and how can we support each other ? Moving beyond the hype, we will candidly assess the progress of LF and CNCF initiatives aimed at accelerating cloud-native adoption in Telecom and examine the ongoing challenges and available solutions in creating an open telco cloud infrastructure as we start the next decade of cloud-native journey.
