Описание: Finally we are shipping our beloved Land Rover Defender to Africa!

After long weeks researching routes and possible partners to ship with, we decided to ship in a container from Aqaba, Jordan.

Final destination, Mombasa. Partner in crime: Jonas, German biker will be sharing the container with us.

We would have preferred to drive all the way through Egypt , Sudan and Ethiopia. This last country changed very recently (around October 2022) the temporary import laws for foreign cars. A carnet de Passage is not accepted anymore and a big deposit is required at the border (5xvalue of the vehicle). This new law makes transiting Ethiopia not possible for most overlanders. Shipping around is one option, there are others, like transiting Chad (dangerous in some areas, but possible with a guide). We have heard as well it would be possible to transit Ethiopia with a guide and avoid the deposit, still not 100% confirmed.

For us shipping was the best option at the time, and we though it would avoid a lot of headaches. We had no idea what was coming our way. Stayed tuned for PART 2 of the Shipping.
